The recent offensive success of Casper Wells led off Mike Blowers’ latest conversation with “Bob and Groz.”

The Mariners’ outfielder has hit .313 (16-for-51) with five extra-base hits and 10 RBIs since he was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on June 13. He hit the go-ahead, three-run double in Monday’s 6-3 win over Baltimore, then hit a solo home run in Tuesday’s 5-4 loss.

Wells was hitting .213 when the Mariners sent him down on May 24.

“I think Casper had some mechanical issues that were going on, and he made some adjustments [in Tacoma],” Blowers said. “And now that he’s getting an opportunity to play, you’re seeing him take off. … That’s an adjustment that he has made on the mechanical side of things, and it’s noticeable. You can see the things that he’s doing and you can see the success that he’s having.”

In the video below, Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby explain what while a trip to Tacoma worked for Wells, that’s not necessarily the answer for some of the Mariners’ other struggling young hitters.
