Mariners option Hector Noesi, recall Carlos Peguero

The Mariners have optioned Hector Noesi to Triple-A Tacoma and replaced the struggling pitcher on the 25-man roster with red-hot outfielder Carlos Peguero.

The Mariners announced the move on Thursday, a day after Noesi suffered his 11th loss of the season in Seattle’s 4-2 loss to Baltimore. Noesi is 2-11 with a 5.77 ERA in 17 starts this season.

Peguero is hitting .342 with six home runs and 12 RBIs over his last 10 games with the Tacoma Rainiers. He ranks third in the Pacific Coast League with 18 home runs, including one in each of his last five games.

Peguero will be available for this weekend’s three-game series against the Athletics.

Note: Outfielder Mike Carp began his rehab assignment with the Rainiers on Wednesday, going 1-for-5 with an RBI. Carp has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 12 with inflammation in his right shoulder.
