As of Friday, Sounders defender Chad Marshall hasn’t trained with the team since leaving Wednesday’s practice early with an unspecified injury.
Head coach Sigi Schmid told the media after Friday’s training that Marshall felt some muscle “soreness, tightness” and is officially questionable for Saturday’s match against the Colorado Rapids.
Nelson Valdez, who was a late scratch for last weekend’s trip to Dallas due to a calf strain in practice, is slated to be out for the weekend.
Three things to watch in Sounders-Rapids
Here are additional notes from the Sounders this week:
• US Soccer announced that the Sounders will kick off their Lamar Hunt US Open Cup run with a fourth-round match at Starfire Sports against either the Bremerton-based Kitsap Pumas or Sacramento Republic FC on June 15. Those teams play each other in the third round on June 1 in Sacramento. The Sounders will likely be without all of their Copa America players, and Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans are officially suspended after their dismissals (and subsequent punishment) from last season’s unforgettable fourth-round loss to the Timbers.
• Seattle could potentially face former teammate Micheal Azira on Saturday. The midfielder joined the Rapids via the MLS Waiver Draft in the offseason. Former fan favorite Marco Pappa, however, is still out from a sprained knee he suffered in April.
