The Seahawks’ defense continued to prepare for the big-play offense of the Panthers on Thursday.
Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said the size and speed of quarterback Cam Newton poses a special challenge for his unit. Bradley said there will be times Newton will keep the ball and run, and it will likely take two tacklers to bring him down.
Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson is excited for Sunday’s game since it will be played close to one of his college alma maters, North Carolina State University. While Wilson will have extra friends and family rooting him on, he emphasized he must be focused on finding a way to lead Seattle to its first road win of the season.
Seattle’s injury report now includes defensive tackle Brandon Mebane, who did not practice Thursday due to a calf injury. Nickelback Marcus Trufant did not practice for the second day in a row because of a back problem. Bradley said Danny Gorrer has practiced well in that spot this week.
Defensive lineman Jaye Howard has a foot injury and also watched practice. Right guard John Moffitt has been ruled out due to a knee injury.
The Seahawks have a light practice scheduled for Friday.
