Jack Zduriencik expects to re-sign Ichiro, who is entering the final year of his contract but will “be a Mariner as long as he wants to be” because of his relationship with the team’s ownership.
Those are the words and thoughts of FOXSports.com’s Jon Morosi, who joined “Bob and Groz” on Monday and shared what he learned from a recent conversation with the Mariners’ general manager.
“I’m not surprised at the fact that he expects Ichiro to return next year,” Morosi said. “Frankly — and this has been the case for years — Ichiro’s relationship with the Mariners is chiefly with ownership, and if ownership wants him back he will be back, period.”
“Jack frankly knows that it’s not really his call,” Morosi added.
In the video below, Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby discuss whether there’s any way it would benefit the Mariners to bring Ichiro back.
