Sounders star Jordan Morris is making the leap to the English Football League Championship.
Morris has joined Swansea City on loan from the Sounders for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. The move had been heavily rumored throughout week. The 26-year-old forward joins the Swans immediately for the campaign that will run through May.
A Mercer Island native, Morris’ arrival in MLS coincided with the most successful period in the Sounders’ history in the league. He debuted in 2016, helping Seattle win its first MLS Cup, and they reached the title game in each of the four seasons he has been healthy, including another championship victory in 2019.

Morris missed the 2018 season with a torn ACL, a year in which the Sounders reached the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
In 105 career games, Morris has 35 goals and 20 assists for the Sounders.
“At the end of the day, this move is all about Jordan and what he wants from his career,” Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey said in a press release. “Our club and city are behind him as he embarks on the next phase of his journey, and should he return to Seattle at the end of this loan, we know he will be stronger for the experience.”
Added Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer: “I’m very proud of the player and professional that Jordan has become. He’s been a large part of this club’s success and has more than earned this opportunity to ply his trade abroad,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said in a release. “This particular move gives him a chance to showcase his skillset and opens a number of options for his future. On top of that, I am excited to watch him play for Swansea.”
A Stanford product, Morris also has 10 goals in 39 appearances for the US men’s national team.
