Seahawks bring back Luke Willson; Snacks Harrison claimed by GB

The Seahawks couldn’t hang on to “Snacks,” but they can’t keep Luke Willson away.

A pair of small but notable moves for Seattle lit up the transactions list on Wednesday. On the one hand, veteran tight end Luke Willson is back about two months since his last stint with the team. But on the other, former defensive tackles Damon “Snacks” Harrison is headed to a potential postseason opponent.

Harrison, who requested his release from the Seahawks before Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams after it was clear he would be inactive for the game due to Bryan Mone’s return from injury, was claimed off of waivers Wednesday by Green Bay. The Packers currently own the top seed to the playoffs from the NFC while Seattle is third, though that could change this weekend.

The news brought up the question of whether Harrison, 32, would actually decide to play for the Packers, and he appears set to do so.

Harrison had said in recent days on his Twitter account that he hopes to play for another team this year but would not be “doing the waiver thing,” indicating he wanted to clear waivers and choose his destination as a free agent. He didn’t make it past Green Bay on the waiver wire, however, and he replied to a tweet Wednesday afternoon speculating that there was a short list of teams he would join if claimed with the simple phrase of “Bingo.”

Harrison came out of a potential retirement to join Seattle around midseason, spending a month on the practice squad getting into shape before playing in all six of the Seahawks’ games from Week 10 to Week 15.

As for Willson, he’s rejoining Seattle as a practice squad member, giving the team depth at tight end heading into the postseason. He has played eight games this season, the last three of which were with the Baltimore Ravens. He has one reception on three targets for 12 yards this year, all with Baltimore. This is technically the third stint with the Seahawks for the 30-year-old Willson, who was released in November after rookie Colby Parkinson was activated following his recovery from injury.

The Seahawks also announced Wednesday that linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong has been signed back to the practice squad.
