Seahawks Football 101: Jamal Adams does it all for Seattle at safety

Dec 22, 2020, 3:44 PM | Updated: 3:51 pm

The Seahawks’ defense continued its stellar play in Week 15 with another great performance, this time against the NFC East-leading Washington Football Team. Seattle held Washington to just 15 points.

Will Seahawks’ offense be ‘cooking’ or balanced going forward?

In this recent stretch of brilliance, the Seahawks have had a number of players step up and contribute, such as cornerback D.J. Reed and defensive end Carlos Dunlap. But one player who has been consistently making plays all season long for the Seahawks when he plays is Jamal Adams, who picked up another sack, giving him 9,5 in 10 games. That mark is already the most by a defensive back in a single season in NFL history.

The Seahawks struggled against the pass last season and also struggled to generate a pass rush. Adams has helped in both regards so far this season, and that was the case in Washington. 710 ESPN Seattle’s own Dave Wyman broke down two plays from the Washington game where Adams showed he’s a premier safety in the NFL. (You can watch the full video breakdown at the top of this story, or on 710 ESPN Seattle’s YouTube page here.)

On the first play, Washington was running a receiver screen that Adams blew up from the start, allowing cornerback Shaquill Griffin to make a tackle for next to no gain.

The next play Wyman looks at was when Adams recorded sack number 9.5, which ranks seventh in the NFL.

On that play, Adams was lined up on the left side of the field near the hash mark and quarterback Dwayne Haskins rolled out the other way to the sideline. Adams showed his elite speed as well as his hitting ability, sacking Haskins behind the line of scrimmage for yet another sack.
