Reports: DE John Abraham to visit Seahawks

While the Seahawks would prefer to stay young and build through the draft, coach Pete Carroll has said the team will consider all options in its offseason pursuit of a pass rusher.

One of those options appears to be 34-year-old John Abraham. According to Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network, Abraham is making a free-agent visit with the Seahawks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reports Abraham and the Seahawks are meeting.

The Falcons released Abraham last week while purging their roster of some higher-priced veterans. He was scheduled to make $4.25 million in 2013 while carrying a $7.156 salary-cap figure.

Because he was released, Abraham does not have to wait until the official start of free agency to begin talking and visiting with teams.

Abraham has 122 sacks over his 13-year career, including at least 9.5 in each of the past three seasons. He had 10 sacks in 2012 despite the Falcons reducing his paying time in an effort to preserve his health. For that reason, it’s hard to imagine the Seahawks signing Abraham with the intention of using him in an every-down role.
