The fact that the Seahawks made it through a Thursday night game with only a handful of new injuries could be seen as a positive, though it does sound like there are some players that will need to miss additional time. The truly positive news for Seattle, however, is that it looks like it will be getting more reinforcements in time for its next game.

Huard: Why the Seahawks’ ‘sound’ defensive showing is sustainable

On 710 ESPN Seattle’s The Pete Carroll Show on Friday morning, the Seahawks head coach indicated that while tight end Greg Olsen, offensive tackle Brandon Shell and running back Bo Scarbrough are likely to miss at least the Week 12 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, they could have running back Rashaad Penny and rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor available by that Monday, Nov. 30 tilt.

“Yes, there is a hope,” Carroll said when asked if Penny and Taylor could return from the PUP and NFI lists, respectively. “I’m kinda counting on Darrell, I’m not sure about Rashaad yet if this is the week, but it’s only another week away if not this week.”

Penny has been working his way back all year from surgery to repair a torn ACL that cut his 2019 campaign short late in the season, while Taylor, Seattle’s second-round pick out of Tennessee in April, has been recovering from an offseason knee surgery of his own.

Carroll seems excited about the prospect of adding Taylor to the pass rush rotation, which has suddenly looked like a strength of the defense after the trade acquisition of Thursday night’s hero, Carlos Dunlap.

“Wait until you see Darrell and see what he can add to us,” Carroll said. “We haven’t seen him on the practice field yet, but knowing what he is, watching him work out, seeing the kind of athlete he is and his mentality, he’s a really bright football player (and) I think he’s gonna have a chance to help us soon, as soon as he gets out there.”

Here’s a quick look at what Carroll had to say about each of the injuries the Seahawks sustained in Thursday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

• Veteran tight end Greg Olsen left Thursday’s game late with a left foot injury that the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday is a ruptured left plantar fascia. Olsen has a history with that injury, albeit with his right foot, needing surgery to repair it in 2018.

“Greg is legitimately hurt. That’s gonna be a while for him,” Carroll said. “He’s had the injury before on his other foot, he knows what it is, he knows what he’s up against so he can handle that well.”

The estimated timetable for return is two months, so for the 35 year old to even have a chance to get back on the field with Seattle this season, it will require a very deep playoff run.

• Right tackle Brandon Shell, an offseason addition who has been an integral part of a successful Seahawks offensive line this year, is also probably going to miss significant time. He suffered a lower leg injury in the second half.

“I haven’t heard this morning the severity of his ankle – a little bit of ankle, little bit of knee got torqued in there, too,” Carroll said. “He’s a good football player; we’ll miss him if he misses any time. He’s been really consistent for us and been really a great pickup.”

• The need for Penny to return could be a bit more urgent after running back Bo Scarbrough sustained a hamstring injury on an awkward tackle that resulted in him inadvertently doing the splits. Scarbrough had a nice showing after being called up Thursday from the practice squad, rushing for 31 yards on six carries.

“Bo had a little hamstring thing too that might keep him back a bit. He did a nice job for us when he had his chance,” Carroll said. “… I don’t know how he is this morning but he was pretty sore last night.”

• Carroll said defensive tackle Poona Ford is fine after getting checked out by trainers on the field and briefly leaving Thursday’s game in the first half. Seattle recently placed fellow DT Bryan Mone on injured reserve and can ill afford to lose another player at the position.
