RENTON – One of the coolest parts of the NFL Draft is the emotional reactions from players when they find out they’ve just been selected. Germain Ifedi had a memorable one Thursday night after the Seahawks chose the Texas A&M tackle with the 31st pick in the first round.
“Yessir!” Ifedi shouted as he stood up and began to jump for joy along with family, friends and his agent (the man in the suit), who were all watching from his hometown of Houston.
“SportsCenter” captured the moment in a Vine that’s embedded below.
Seahawks owner Paul Allen posted a video to Twitter of what happened right before that, when general manager John Schneider told Ifedi that Seattle was taking him. Coach Pete Carroll then chatted briefly with Ifedi.
Speaking with local reporters afterward, Ifedi called it one of the greatest moments of his life.
“It was 10, 12 years of hard work coming to roost,” he said. “I know it’s not my ultimate goal of being a great player, but it’s another step. It’s a huge step. The long wait, 30 picks, and you get that call. You don’t know who it’s from. It could be a bill collector – you don’t know. You don’t know who’s calling you, and if it’s the wrong person you might lose it. But it was the right person. I heard ‘John’ and I jumped out of my seat.”
