Former Cal football coach Jeff Tedford may join Chris Petersen’s staff at Washington.
Tedford and Petersen have had informal discussions about him becoming an offensive consultant for the Huskies, according to The Seattle Times.
Chris Petersen: UW QB Jake Browning making ‘subtle’ but important strides
A two-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year award winner, Tedford most recently coached the CFL’s B.C. Lions last year. He’s known as a particularly talented offensive coach, having served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the 1990s for Fresno State then Oregon from 1998-2001. He was Cal’s head coach from 2002-12. He also had a brief stint as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator in 2014, leaving before the end of that season due to health concerns.
The list of quarterbacks that Tedford coached in college is a who’s who of names that went on to the NFL, including but not limited to Aaron Rodgers, Trent Dilfer and Joey Harrington.
His knowledge in coaching quarterbacks could certainly come in handy for the Dawgs, who will have sophomore Jake Browning under center for the second straight year in 2016.
