The Seahawks will get a boost in their secondary for a Week 5 Sunday night showdown with the Minnestota Vikings, but Seattle is taking a hit on the offensive line.

Huard: Why the Vikings will give the Seahawks’ defense problems

Starting cornerback Quinton Dunbar is active for the Seahawks after after missing two games, but starting left guard Mike Iupati is out.

Dunbar has been battling a knee injury that kept him out of action Weeks 3 and 4 and was questionable to play, but he is making his return at a good time, as the Vikings boast a talented wide receiver duo with veteran Adam Thielen and rookie Justin Jefferson.

Iupati was also questionable with knee and back injuries. On Friday, Carroll said Iupati had some back spasms that were resolved quickly and sounded optimistic that the big left guard would play. It’s unclear whether Iupati, who was a limited participant all week in practice, is being kept out of action because of his knee or back. Jordan Simmons, who has rotated in with Iupati at left guard this year, likely gets the starting nod at left guard.

Safeties Jamal Adams and Lano Hill are both inactive as well. Adams was ruled out earlier this week with a groin injury he suffered in Week 3 while Hill was ruled out early Sunday after initially being questionable.

Adams missed Week 4 and Hill was out for Weeks 3 and 4 with a back injury. Carroll said Hill isn’t quite right even though he can do some activities like running, but there’s concern that the injury could become a serious long-term issue. Starting at strong safety once again will be Ryan Neal, who began the year on Seattle’s practice squad but now has two interceptions in two games.

Rookie first-round linebacker Jordyn Brooks and backup running back Carlos Hyde, who were both questionable to play, are inactive.

Brooks became the team’s new starting linebacker in Week 3 after Bruce Irvin tore his ACL in Week 2, but Brooks sprained his knee early in Week 3 and hasn’t played since. Hyde, meanwhile, missed Week 4 with a shoulder injury that is keeping him out of action again Week 5. Luckily for them and other injured Seahawks players, Seattle’s bye week is next week.

Rounding out the inactives list for the Seahawks was interior offensive lineman Kyle Fuller, who has been a healthy scratch since missing the first two weeks of the season with a suspension.

Also noteworthy is recently-signed defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, who for the time being is on the practice squad, was not called up to play the Vikings. The Seahawks did, however, promote practice squad safety Damarious Randall to the active roster for the game, adding much-needed depth to the safety position with Adams and Hill inactive.

For the Vikings, their biggest hit comes in their secondary, with starting cornerback Holton Hill out with a foot injury and backup corer Kris Boyd out with a hamstring injury. Both were questionable.

Minnesota’s other three inactive players are backups, most notably former WSU defensive lineman Hercules Mata’afa.
