The Jets have signed former Seahawks wide receiver Ben Obomanu, who was released in March after seven seasons in Seattle.
Obomanu, 29, was a seventh-round pick out of Auburn in 2006 and spent that season on Seattle’s practice squad. He found himself on the roster bubble for seemingly the majority of his career with the Seahawks, but his versatility and ability to play special teams helped him make the team year after year, even as the current regime purged the roster of veterans in favor of younger players.
Obomanu was the odd-man-out when Seattle traded for Percy Harvin, leaving one fewer spot at receiver. He was entering the final year of a three-year extension he signed during a breakout season in 2010.
Obomanu finished his Seahawks career with 87 catches for 1,209 yards and seven touchdowns.
Brock Huard and Danny O’Neil discussed Obomanu’s opportunity with the Jets in Thursday’s edition of “Blue 42”.
