Seahawks Football 101: How K.J. Wright, defense solved big-play issues

Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright had a standout game in Sunday’s 31-23 win over Miami, and the defense had its best showing of the season thus far, limiting big plays to keep the Dolphins to 415 total yards of offense.

And yes, Wright’s play tied directly into Seattle coming up with an answer to something that had been a problem through the first three games of the year – the big play.

Wright, a 10-year veteran, was all over the field in Miami, making eight tackles (six solo), including a tackle for loss. What was really important, though, was his play in coverage, where he had three passes defensed.

In this week’s edition of Dave Wyman’s Football 101, the 710 ESPN Seattle host, Seahawks Radio Network color commentator and former NFL linebacker breaks down what the Hawks did on defense to prevent the Dolphins from executing explosive plays, and what Wright’s specific role was in doing that.
