The Seahawks suffered a notable loss to their pass rush in last Sunday’s 35-30 win over New England, with linebacker/defensive end Bruce Irvin tearing his ACL in a season-ending injury. And while Seattle can ill afford losing more players who rush the quarterback, there are two who are in question for their Week 3 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

How will Seahawks use Jordyn Brooks with Bruce Irvin out for season?

Defensive end Rasheem Green is at risk of missing his second straight game with a neck issue, and fellow defensive end Benson Mayowa will be a gametime decision with a groin injury, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told KIRO Radio 97.3 FM’s Dori Monson on Friday’s Pete Carroll Show. (Update: Green was placed on injured reserve Friday and he will miss at least three weeks.)

Green was one of five players who sat out Wednesday’s practice, along with offensive tackle Duane Brown (knee/foot), defensive tackle Jarran Reed (back), linebacker Cody Barton (quadriceps) and Mayowa.

Carroll said Brown, Barton and Reed should all be OK to play Sunday but that Mayowa is a different case.

“Benson worked (Thursday) and we’ll have to see gametime if he’s OK,” Carroll said.

The need for Mayowa to play for Seattle is especially crucial following the loss of Irvin as the pair were the team’s biggest offseason additions to a pass rush that struggled in 2019. The pass rush has yet to take off this year, as the Seahawks registered just three sacks in their first two games. Mayowa accounts for the only sack by a player who is a traditional pass rusher (safety Jamal Adams has the other two).

Carroll had much more to say in the weekly interview, including thoughts on the great starts by Russell Wilson and DK Metcalf. You can hear The Pete Carroll Show every Friday in a shortened version on Seattle’s Morning News and in full on The Dori Monson Show.
