SAN DIEGO – Wide receiver Sidney Rice and center Max Unger were among the 18 Seahawks who are not expected to play in Thursday’s preseason opener in San Diego.
Rice received an injection in Switzerland last week to treat tendinitis in his knee while Unger has been suffering from a groin injury.
In regular-season games, NFL teams announce the list of players who will be inactive for the game 90 minutes beforehand. There is no inactive list for preseason games, but the Seahawks did announce players who were not expected to play.
On offense, Rice and fellow receivers Percy Harvin and Bryan Walters are expected to be out as well as running back Robert Turbin, linemen Unger, Mike Person and James Carpenter and tight ends Zach Miller and Darren Fells.
On defense, defensive backs Tharold Simon and Ron Parker won’t play. Neither will linebackers Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagner, Korey Toomer, tackle Tony McDaniel or defensive ends Cliff Avril, Chris Clemons and Greg Scruggs.
