Seahawks WRs...

Here’s nine Seahawks thoughts, predictions and observations before cuts on Saturday. Why nine? I couldn’t come up with 10.

Moore: Hard to forecast happy ending with Seahawks re-signing Gordon

1) With Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Josh Gordon, do the Seahawks have the best trio of receivers in the league?

2) If you’re disappointed that Jadeveon Clowney appears to be signing with another team, I’m guessing the Seahawks might not have made the trade for Jamal Adams if Clowney had returned. As it is, they face plenty of difficult salary-cap decisions next year with big paydays expected for Quinton Dunbar, Shaquill Griffin and Adams.

3) I’ve already predicted that this defense will move from 26th to somewhere in the top 10 in total defense, and if that doesn’t happen, if they’re somewhere in the teens or lower, this will be Ken Norton’s last season as defensive coordinator.

4) If it doesn’t happen this week, it will happen when Gordon is put on the active roster after likely being suspended for two more games – Paul Richardson will go from recently signed to waived by the Seahawks. Pete Carroll had a less than ringing endorsement of Richardson on Thursday, and it’s not surprising. Richardson has had only one practice after spending the offseason at home as a free agent and working out on his own.

5) Bryan Mone will make the 53-man roster on Saturday but will end up on the practice squad after the Seahawks sign a defensive tackle that is cut by another team.

6) Even though he had more receptions than any other Seahawk in the last seven games of the season, Jacob Hollister will be cut or traded because of his $3.2 million salary. Which means Luke Willson will continue his second run with the Seahawks.

7) Justin Britt will be signed Friday and back up Ethan Pocic while B.J. Finney becomes the latest free-agent offensive-lineman whiff in John Schneider’s tenure as GM.

8) As mentioned in a previous post, I think the Seahawks will improve from 28 sacks last year to 35 this year. Adams will lead the way with 7.5 sacks, recording more than free-agent acquisitions Bruce Irvin (7) and Benson Mayowa (4). It’s a lengthy reach to go with Adams as the sack leader, but he had 6.5 last year with the Jets. This is also under the assumption that the Seahawks let him blitz like he did in New York – not the best assumption in the world since we know that the Seahawks don’t tend to blitz as much as other teams.

9) Carroll will complete his 11th season as Seahawks coach having never worn a baseball cap or visor. I keep meaning to ask him why he never wears a baseball cap like most coaches, to at least protect his face from the sun, but I have to assume it’s because he likes his full head of hair at the age of almost 69 and doesn’t want to cover it up. Full disclosure: I don’t like wearing baseball caps either, and it’s because I think they make me look older than I am. I wonder if that’s how Pete feels too. Whatever the case, I’ll get to the bottom of it this season. I’m just trying to find the right time, between questions about injuries and schemes and opponents, to blurt out a question about why he doesn’t wear hats.
