Brandon Browner, Cliff Avril out for Seahawks’ season-opener at Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cornerback Brandon Browner and defensive end Cliff Avril are both inactive for the Seahawks’ season-opening game at Carolina.
Avril is coming back from a hamstring injury that kept him out for all four of Seattle’s preseason games while Browner was troubled by a hamstring beginning last week. Each worked out on the field prior to the game, neither was deemed ready to go.
Walter Thurmond is expected to start at right cornerback with Browner out. When Seattle uses five defensive backs, Thurmond will slide inside to defend the slot receiver with Byron Maxwell coming in to play on the outside.
O’Brien Schofield is expected to start at pass-rushing defensive end with Avril and Chris Clemons out.
Also inactive for Seattle: LB John Lotulelei, OL Michael Bowie, OL Alvin Bailey, DE Chris Clemons and DT Jordan Hill.
Inactive for the Panthers: S Mike Mitchell, RB Kenjon Barner, CB James Dockery, C Brian Folkerts, G Amini Silatolu, WR Domenik Hixon, DE Wes Horton.
