Monday was a busy day for new Seahawks safety Jamal Adams.
Jamal Adams expects to ‘roam more’ in Seahawks’ defense
The 2019 All-Pro not only joined 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny and Gallant in the morning for an entertaining, energetic interview (that featured a comeback to a comment from his former defensive coordinator with the Jets), but he was a standout in practice at Seahawks training camp in Renton.
Our own Jake Heaps, a former Seahawks quarterback, was able to be there in person and take in the practice, and Adams jumped out to him. Of course, it’s not hard to conceive that considering Adams actually picked off superstar QB Russell Wilson.
Heaps spent a few minutes during Monday’s edition of Tom, Jake and Stacy detailing what he saw at practice, and Adams was at the top of his list.
“He is a guy that brings energy. He is a guy that brings confidence. You could see it on the field. You could see how much fun they’re having,” Heaps said. “Jamal Adams is the real deal. He looks the part, he plays the part. … Just that athleticism, that play-making ability, you can just see it very, very clearly. You don’t have to be on the field too long to notice Jamal Adams’ presence.”
OK, OK, but tell us about the interception (warning: heavy X’s and O’s talk incoming).
“They used him in kind of a buzz alignment, meaning that he wasn’t jumping to the flat but was sitting in the hook to curl and he read it perfectly,” Heaps said of Adams’ pick. “Russell tried to throw it over the top of him and he made an athletic play to go up and high-point the ball.
“My favorite part was he didn’t just intercept it and make the catch really smoothly, he took it to the house. He ran it from one sideline to the other.”
Heaps had plenty more to say about his afternoon with the Seahawks. Get the full scoop in this podcast of his training camp takeaways segment.
