Bob Stelton’s top-20 Seahawks list: 3 D-linemen and receivers make the cut

Over the last week, all three members of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Dave and Moore have unveiled their top-20 Seahawks players heading into the 2020 season. On Tuesday, Jim Moore wrote about his list and why he had certain Seahawks players at specific spots (read that in the link below). In this piece, we take a look at Bob Stelton’s list, with what Stelton said about the majority of his picks during their shows. Jim Moore’s top-20 Seahawks list: Bobby Wagner doesn’t make top 5

20: WR David Moore

“Just in terms of what he’s produced, I thought he earned a spot there.”

2019 stats: 17 catches, 302 yards, two touchdowns in 14 games

19: CB/ST Neiko Thorpe

“Maybe one of the best special teams players they’ve got when he’s healthy would be Neiko ‘The Torpedo’ Thorpe. The ‘Thorpedo.’ I think he’s essential when it comes to their special teams, he’s an absolute missile there. And as far as what he does as a defensive back, that’s sort of icing on the cake for me.”

2019 stats: Special teams captain, eight tackles in seven games

18: DE Benson Mayowa

“He’s a guy we’ve seen here before, we’ve seen him elsewhere with Oakland and seen what he’s been able to produce, so he’s a known commodity.”

2019 stats: 15 tackles, five tackles for loss, seven sacks, 10 QB hits in 15 games

17: RB Carlos Hyde

“A proven commodity coming off his best year as a running back in terms of his production. Even though he’s not a young guy, he’s a guy who in terms of what he’s proven so far has found his way onto this list.”

2019 stats: 245 carries, 1,070 yards, six rushing touchdowns in 16 games

16: P Michael Dickson

2018 First-Team All-Pro as a rookie

15: TE Greg Olsen

“We’ll see what he does with this team. We haven’t seen him yet, but obviously we’ve seen what he’s done throughout his career.”

2019 stats: 52 catches, 597 yards, two touchdowns in 14 games

14: CB Tre Flowers

“Dave, I’m with you (who ranked him No. 12). I think Tre was a victim of the end of the season. I think we’ve got recency bias right there as people like to say and that became his whole season. I thought he played really well.”

2019 stats: 82 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, eight pass deflections, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery in 15 games

13: DE/LB Bruce Irvin

“Eight sacks for him last year. Hopefully he can recapture a bit of that and bring it this year.’

2019 stats: 36 tackles, 8.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery in 13 games

12: CB Shaquill Griffin

“I think he’s really good. He doesn’t have the interception numbers that Jim loves, but I think he’s a really, really good cornerback.”

2019 stats: 65 tackles, two tackles for loss, 13 pass deflections, zero interceptions, first career Pro Bowl nod in 14 games

11: DT Jarran Reed

“I tend to agree with Jim that they might have overpaid for him and I was not dazzled by him at all last year, though obviously we love who he was before that, but you kind of give him slack because he missed six games and maybe never totally found his footing, but he’s a guy they invested in and are totally counting on. He’s shown he can do it at this level and I don’t expect double-digit sacks, I don’t think that’s a fair expectation, but I think he’s a really important piece to this team.”

2019 stats: 27 tackles, two sacks, zero tackles for loss, eight QB hits in 10 games

10: TE Will Dissly

“I love what he’s able to do in terms of catching the ball and blocking, which is what they brought him in here for and it turns out he’s a great receiver on top of it. He’s just got to stay healthy as we all know.”

2019 stats: 23 catches, 262 yards, four touchdowns in six games

9: WR DK Metcalf

“For obvious reasons, 900 yards as a rookie, I think he’s going to be over 1,000 yards easily this year if he stays healthy and maybe he does become the best receiver, but one year under his belt I couldn’t put him above Tyler (Lockett).”

2019 stats: 58 catches, 900 yards, seven touchdowns in 16 games

8: FS Quandre Diggs

2019 stats: 41 tackles, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups in 10 games (all takeaways in five games with the Seahawks)

7: LB K.J. Wright

“I think he had a really, really good year last year. I don’t quite get the criticism of him coming off last season. I know the defense as a whole was problematic but he was far from a big problem on this defense.”

2019 stats: 132 tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions, 11 pass deflections in 16 games

6: RB Chris Carson

“The fumbles are a problem and running backs are devalued in this league and I don’t want to see them break the bank for him. I want to see him clean up the issues with fumbling the ball and stay healthy more importantly and be able to just be relied upon.”

2019 stats: 278 rushes, 1,230 rushing yards, 266 receiving yards, nine total touchdowns, seven fumbles in 15 games

5: LT Duane Brown

“I still feel like he’s still a top-five left tackle in this league despite his age. He’s extremely good and man, he’s the only one you feel like you can count on (on the offensive line) going into the season. Maybe these other guys can be good, but they’re unknowns at this point outside of (Mike) Iupati who is injury prone.”

2019 stats: 12 games, three penalties, one sack allowed per Washington Post

4: WR Tyler Lockett

“He went over 1,000 yards last season, 82 catches, eight touchdowns. He has become the go-to guy so to speak. He’s filled in so well in the absence of Doug Baldwin. He’s absolutely reliable to the point where if he doesn’t catch a ball that hits his hands, you scratch your head for a moment because you’re not used to seeing it.”

2019 stats: 82 catches, 1,057 yards, eight touchdowns, 345 return yards

3: SS Jamal Adams

“Maybe he will be No. 2. I just haven’t seen him enough. I’ve seen the highlights certainly but we’re not all out here watching Jets games. We’re going off word of mouth and his All-Pro ranking. He’s obviously a great player, but I want to see him fit in with the Seahawks, which I assume will be great.”

2019 stats: 75 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, one interception, one fumble recovery, two defensive touchdowns, 6.5 sacks, First-Team All-Pro in 14 games

2: LB Bobby Wagner

“I still have Wagner at two. And we all talked about how he didn’t have the ‘boom plays’ or those splash plays last year, but he led the entire NFL in tackles. People make excuses for that … but he’s still an incredibly effective player.”

2019 stats: 159 tackles (NFL leader), three sacks, seven tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, First-Team All-Pro in 16 games

1: QB Russell Wilson

2019 stats: 4,110 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 66.1 completion percentage, 342 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, Second-Team All-Pro
