Over the last week, all three members of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Dave and Moore have unveiled their top-20 Seahawks players heading into the 2020 season. On Tuesday, Jim Moore wrote about his list and why he had certain Seahawks players at specific spots (read that in the link below) and on Wednesday, we wrote up Bob Stelton’s list (link at the bottom of the story). In this piece, we take a look at former NFL linebacker Dave Wyman’s list, with what Wyman said about the some of his picks during their shows. For the first installment of Bob, Dave and Moore’s top-20 Seahawks lists, visit this link to one of last week’s podcasts.
Jim Moore’s top-20 Seahawks list: Bobby Wagner doesn’t make top 5
20: OL Jamarco Jones
“I really liked what I saw out of him and he filled in a couple times in that Rams game and he was blocking Dante Fowler, blocking Aaron Donald. I only have two offensive linemen (on the list) and he’s 20.”
2019 stats: 15 games, three starts, one penalty, two sacks allowed per Washington Post
19: RB Rashaad Penny
2019 stats: 65 carries, 370 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, eight catches, 83 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown in 10 games
18: S Marquise Blair
“He’s one of those guys I’ve been kind of talking up quite a bit.”
2019 stats: 32 tackles, two forced fumbles, one pass deflection in 14 games (three starts)
17: DE Rasheem Green
2019 stats: 27 tackles, four sacks, three tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery in 16 games
16: LB Cody Barton
2019 stats: 23 tackles, one fumble recovery, two pass deflections in 16 games (two starts)
Wyman said he is still high on the 2018 and 2019 drafts and is waiting for some of those players he listed above to pop and shine, especially on defense.
15: DE/LB Bruce Irvin
Here’s a story from earlier this offseason where Wyman describes why bringing Irvin back is big for the Seahawks.
2019 stats: 36 tackles, 8.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery in 13 games
14: CB Shaquill Griffin
“I think he’s a really good player.”
2019 stats: 65 tackles, two tackles for loss, 13 pass deflections, zero interceptions, first career Pro Bowl nod in 14 games
13: TE Greg Olsen
2019 stats: 52 catches, 597 yards, two touchdowns in 14 games
12: CB Tre Flowers
“I’m not sure how you guys feel about him, but I have a lot of faith in that kid. I think he’s perfectly built for that, I think he’s got a great mentality and I felt like he had a lot better of a year last year (than people thought).”
2019 stats: 82 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, eight pass deflections, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery in 15 games
11: DT Jarran Reed
“Jarran Reed is out of the top 10, just slightly, mainly because of his position. I think defensive tackle, (unless) you have a guy who’s like Aaron Donald, that guy can be your most valuable player, but Jarran Reed’s a really good football player and maybe he should be in the top 10 instead of somebody else, but I have him at 11 because I’m banking on the fact that he can have a year like he had two years ago (10.5 sacks) rather than the year he had last year (two sacks) in just 10 games.”
2019 stats: 27 tackles, two sacks, zero tackles for loss, eight QB hits in 10 games
10: WR Tyler Lockett
2019 stats: 82 catches, 1,057 yards, eight touchdowns, 345 return yards
9: LB K.J. Wright
“I’m not sure if anyone else has him that high, but I’m very high on K.J. Wright.”
2019 stats: 132 tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions, 11 pass deflections in 16 games
8: FS Quandre Diggs
“I was glad to see you guys put him there also. He made such a huge difference last year.” (Note: all three hosts ranked Diggs at No. 8)
2019 stats: 41 tackles, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups in 10 games (all takeaways in five games with the Seahawks)
7: LT Duane Brown
“The only reason I have Duane Brown at No. 7, I think he should be one of the top four or five guys based on what he does but he’s an offensive lineman. Yes it’s important, but you have Russell Wilson who can scramble. But I do think Duane Brown is a really good football player and what he does, I think he might be approaching being as good as Walter Jones.”
2019 stats: 12 games, three penalties, one sack allowed per Washington Post
6: WR DK Metcalf
“I think he’s going to take off this next year and if he can stay healthy I think he’s going to be a huge part of this team.”
2019 stats: 58 catches, 900 yards, seven touchdowns in 16 games
5: TE Will Dissly
“I think he is an excellent football player. I just went back and watched the two touchdown catches he made in Pittsburgh where he’s running down the seam and Russell (Wilson) Through it back shoulder so he basically had to do a 360 in midair. The other thing is he catches with his hands every time. He’s not a body catcher.”
2019 stats: 23 catches, 262 yards, four touchdowns in six games
4: RB Chris Carson
“I just like him more and more every year and every year he does something. Remember the spin flip that he did in the air? He can run around people, over them. It’s just a health issue with him and a little fumble problem.”
2019 stats: 278 rushes, 1,230 rushing yards, 266 receiving yards, nine total touchdowns, seven fumbles in 15 games
3: LB Bobby Wagner
2019 stats: 159 tackles (NFL leader), three sacks, seven tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, First-Team All-Pro in 16 games
2: SS Jamal Adams
“I think if you asked one question about the top 20, I think (Jamal Adams compared to Bobby Wagner) would be the most interesting one.”
2019 stats: 75 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, one interception, one fumble recovery, two defensive touchdowns, 6.5 sacks, First-Team All-Pro in 14 games”
1: QB Russell Wilson
2019 stats: 4,110 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 66.1 completion percentage, 342 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, Second-Team All-Pro
