The Mariners have an entire weekend planned to honor soon-to-be Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Ken Griffey Jr. later this season, but he will be at Safeco Field even sooner than that.
Griffey will throw out the first pitch of the Mariners’ home opener against the Oakland Athletics on Friday. The game is set for 7:10 p.m. and will air live on 710 ESPN Seattle.
Griffey is scheduled to be at Safeco from Aug. 5-7 during a series against the Los Angeles Angels, during which the team will honor him with a bobblehead giveaway in Game 1, the retirement of his jersey No. 24 before Game 2, and a replica jersey day in the final game of the set.
