The Seahawks have confirmed an NFL Network report that strong safety Kam Chancellor underwent offseason hip surgery.
ESPN’s John Clayton reported in March that Chancellor was set to undergo minor surgery to repair a lingering issue in his hip. Chancellor seemed to contradict that report a few days later in a somewhat ambiguous tweet. And when asked for clarification on the matter last week, general manager John Schneider declined to comment, saying it would be inappropriate to do so at that time.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Chancellor “will hope to be ready this preseason” but added that “nothing is certain.”
Jeron Johnson, who has backed up Chancellor the past three seasons, signed a one-year deal to remain with the Seahawks.
