RENTON – It’s not a question of offensive tackle Russell Okung starting on the right foot this season.

It’s his left foot that was operated on this offseason, a procedure coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Friday.

Okung first injured his foot in Week 2 last year, suffering a toe injury against the 49ers that kept him out for eight weeks. He returned Nov. 17 against Minnesota and played the final six regular-season games all the way through the playoffs, but there were times he noticeably limped.

When the season ended, it remained possible Okung would undergo surgery. He returned to Seattle for the team’s voluntary conditioning program last month with his left foot in a boot, but declined to specify whether he underwent surgery.

Carroll noted the operation Friday, and while he didn’t specify a timeline for his return, he said Okung should be back in time for training camp, possibly before.

Okung has played four seasons for Seattle, missing a total of 19 games because of injuries to his ankle, pectoral muscle and then his toe.
