The Mariners have activated first baseman Justin Smoak from the 15-day disabled list and optioned Alex Liddi to Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced Tuesday.
Smoak has been on a rehab assignment in Tacoma as he prepares to return from a right oblique strain. He was hitting .240 with three home runs and eight RBIs in 46 games before landing on the DL.
His return means a lighter workload for Kendrys Morales, who is hitting .211 in June while helping fill in for Smoak at first base.
Liddi has hit .059 in eight games.
