Is Richard Sherman parting ways with the Seahawks?

A number of conflicting reports surfaced Wednesday regarding the All-Pro cornerback’s future in Seattle, including one from the NFL Network’s Michael Silver that the Seahawks plan to release him in the coming days.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter: Seahawks ‘are remaking the roster’

Silver added that the Seahawks would be open to bringing Sherman back at a lower salary if he doesn’t sign a big contract elsewhere. Despite Sherman’s track record, the fact that he is coming off Achilles surgery would impact his market as a free agent.

Rumors began swirling when Sherman’s teammate, cornerback Jeremy Lane, sent a cryptic tweet on Wednesday morning. Shortly after, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Sherman “told teammates goodbye over the past 24 hours.”

The Seahawks have not yet commented on the reports, and according to The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta, they have nothing to announce at this time.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Seahawks spoke with Sherman this afternoon and are “weighing options on his future.”

Sherman, 29, has been with the Seahawks for seven seasons. In that time, he has recorded 32 interceptions, two touchdowns, and 286 tackles.

Sherman is one of the most celebrated players in franchise history as a member of Seattle’s Legion of Boom, and was a vital part of Seattle’s Super Bowl XLVIII and XLIX rosters.

The Seahawks appeared to cut ties with another key veteran from their defense on Wednesday, reportedly sending Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade.

In another report, Silver said the Seahawks are open to trading yet another star from their defense: free safety Earl Thomas.
