Carroll says Seahawks will re-sign Dobbs, hope to bring back Schilling

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll met with reporters Wednesday at the NFL owners’ meetings in Phoenix and shared some noteworthy personnel information. One of the reporters on hand was Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, who passed along Carroll’s comments in his blog and on Twitter.

Carroll said Seattle will re-sign defensive end Demarcus Dobbs, who was claimed off waivers from San Francisco in November and became a part of the Seahawks’ defensive-line rotation in the second half of the season. Additionally, the team is in discussions with Kevin Williams about a possible return. Williams took over as Seattle’s starting nose tackle when Brandon Mebane went down with a hamstring injury.

Carroll said the Seahawks are trying to re-sign Stephen Schilling, which would give them another candidate to start at center now that Max Unger has been traded. Schilling was one of three players who started at center for Seattle last season while Unger was injured, the others being Patrick Lewis and Lemuel Jeanpierre. Lewis is under contract for next season while Jeanpierre is an unrestricted free agent.

Carroll expressed some confidence that Seattle will be able to re-sign backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who’s also an unrestricted free agent after playing out last season on a one-year deal. “I think we’ll still get that done,” Carroll said.
