Gee Scott: Kam Chancellor says his holdout with Seahawks ‘in God’s hands’

In the Seahawks’ first regular season game without holdout safety Kam Chancellor, things didn’t end well.

Dion Bailey, Chancellor’s replacement at strong safety, stumbled on a deep ball to St. Louis tight end Lance Kendricks in the fourth quarter, allowing the game to go to overtime, where the Rams emerged with a 34-31 win over Seattle.

Whether or not the loss would have occurred with Chancellor in the lineup, the fact remains that it shines a light on his absence at a time when an end to his holdout doesn’t appear to be in sight.

Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Justin and Gee” has a unique perspective on the situation – he’s a confidant of the three-time Pro Bowler and shared some of what Chancellor said to him on the phone Monday morning.

“I said ‘So what next?’ His comment back to me was, ‘Gee, it’s all in God’s hands,'” Scott said.

Negotiations between Chancellor and the Seahawks have apparently stalled in recent weeks, and his comment backs that up. The two sides may be at an impasse, and the way Scott sees it, it’s time for Seattle to make a decision.

“Are you moving on or not?” Scott asked of the Seahawks. “When I say get rid of Kam, trade him. Because if it’s going to be next man up, let’s truly be about next man up. Let’s dive in with Dion Bailey, no matter what.”

To Scott, the Seahawks are doing a disservice to Bailey, themselves and their fan base by continuing to let the situation go on.

“The Seahawks losing wasn’t on Dion Bailey … but I’m being dead serious. If there’s a possibility for the Seahawks to get something for (Chancellor), go get something for him,” he said. “This holdout is hurting everybody. It’s hurting the fans, it’s hurting the team.”

You can hear the conversation at the beginning of the second hour of Tuesday’s edition of “Justin and Gee.”
