The Mariners’ offense took an enormous bight out of the Big Apple last night as Seattle clubbed the New York Yankees into submission to claim a 10-2 win.

Felix Hernandez captured the bulk of the attention going into the game thanks to his tradition of muting the mighty Bronx Bombers. He cruised through seven innings while only allowing two earned runs. Amazingly, his ERA at new Yankee Stadium actually went up – from 1.18 to 1.37 – despite another outstanding outing.

He has rolled to five wins in a row and pushed his season mark to 8-1 overall. He has dominated his last four opponents, going 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA, four bases on balls and 31 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. He is sixth in the American League in ERA (2.57), first in innings pitched (91), third in strikeouts (91) and fourth in WHIP (1.03). The Mariners have also been able to supply plenty of support since the beginning of May with 6.7 runs a game in Felix starts.

The sticks were scorching again yesterday as Kyle Seager hit his way into history. The Mariners third baseman went 4 for 5 while bashing two triples, a homer and a double. Seager became just the 14th hitter in club history to hit two triples in in a game.

Even more impressively, Seager joined the exclusive club of Mariners hitters who have pounded four or more extra-base hits in a game.

In his last 10 games, Seager is hitting .405 (15 for 37) with two home runs, nine RBIs and seven runs. He was hitting .156 on April 22 but has gone .328 with nine home runs in his last 35 games. He owns the eighth-best batting average (.272), fourth-best on-base percentage (.355), second-best slugging percentage (.503) and second-best OPS (.857) among MLB third basemen.

Seager and the Mariners will pack their bats and head to Atlanta to take on the Braves for only the 10th and 11th times in franchise history. The last time the Mariners defeated Atlanta, Jose Lopez knocked in four runs and Ryan Rowland-Smith pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings to claim victory out of the bullpen.

The Braves are 31-25 and perched at the top of the National League East. The Mariners have won three games in a row and boast a 16-9 record against American League teams currently holding down playoff spots. The Mariners will look to keep the elevated play going in Atlanta against one of the best teams the NL has to offer.
