In their return home after a rough 0-6 road trip, the Mariners put on a show at T-Mobile Park on Monday night.

The Mariners beat the Rangers 6-2, taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning and adding on to it along the way. And nobody added to that lead in a bigger way than slugger Daniel Vogelbach, who blasted what is believed to be just the third home run to reach the third deck in right field at T-Mobile Park since the stadium opened in 1999.
And it was indeed a blast.
That was the 15th home run of the season for Vogelbach, and while STATCAST was down for the night and we can’t say for sure, we’ll go ahead and just say it was the biggest homer of them all. The other players known to have homered into the upper deck in right field back when it was still called Safeco Field are Carlos Delgado and Mo Vaughn, which means Vogelbach is the only Mariner to have reached that rarefied air.
While Vogelbach’s show of strength was one story of the game, the other was Mallex Smith’s feet. He stole four bases, becoming one of seven players to share the Mariners record for steals in a game, including three in one trip on base. And yes, that includes home.
Monday was a promising effort for Smith, who has struggled at the plate this season and sat out the previous two days to work on some swing mechanics. It must have worked, as he went 2 for 3 with a walk in the win over Texas.
