Two key veterans for the Seattle Mariners have landed on the 10-day injured list.

M’s trade Anthony Swarzak to Braves for 2 relievers

Second baseman Dee Gordon and third baseman/first baseman Ryon Healy were placed on the IL prior to Tuesday’s game in Texas against the Rangers, Gordon with a wrist injury that has persisted since he was hit by a J.A. Happ pitch in New York nearly two weeks ago and Healy with lower back inflammation that knocked him from Monday night’s game.

To take the place of Gordon and Healy on the active roster, Seattle has brought back a pair of utility players: Shed Long (recalled from Triple-A Tacoma) and Dylan Moore (activated from 10-day IL and returned from a rehab assignment with Tacoma).

The Mariners had two more moves up their sleeve. First, they selected left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone from Tacoma and optioned right-handed pitcher Parker Markel to the Rainiers. The 32-year-old Milone, an eight-year MLB veteran, will make his Mariners debut by starting Tuesday’s game. Then Tuesday afternoon they announced the signing of right-handed reliever Anthony Bass and designated right-hander Ryan Garton for assignment.

Gordon, 31, is hitting .281 with a .310 on-base percentage and 12 steals in 14 attempts, but he has struggled at the plate since returning from three games off due to being hit by the pitch in New York.

The 27-year-old Healy is tied for second in the American League with 16 doubles and has a .237/.289/.456 slash line, seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 47 games. He has primarily played third base with Kyle Seager recovering from hand surgery. The Mariners will get Seager back when he is eligible to return from the 60-day IL on Saturday, but they will have to use either Tim Beckham, Moore or Long at the position for the three games remaining until then. One of those three players will also have to play second base while Gordon is out.

Long, 23, returns for his second stint with the Mariners this year. He went 0 for 9 with two walks in three games from May 10-14, but with Tacoma he is hitting .293 with six home runs, four triples and six doubles.

The 26-year-old Moore returns after hitting 3 for 13 with four RBIs in three games during his rehab assignment with the Rainiers. He was placed on the 10-day IL on May 10 with a wrist contusion and is hitting .229 (11 for 48) with two home runs, three doubles and two stolen bases with the Mariners this year.

Milone has gone 4-2 with a 3.83 ERA in nine games (eight starts) in Triple-A.

Markel, 28, has a 14.73 ERA in four relief appearances with the Mariners.

The 31-year-old Bass will be available for Seattle on Tuesday, just a day after he was released by the Reds. He was previously with the Mariners prior to the 2016 season but left the organization to pursue a playing opportunity in Japan. In Triple-A this year, he was 1-1 with nine saves and a 2.21 ERA in 19 relief appearances.

Garton, 29, gave up four runs over three innings in two appearances for Seattle after being promoted from Tacoma last Friday.

Kyle Seager returns soon, giving Mariners a big question to answer
