While Seahawks rookies and veterans hit the field together for offseason workouts this week, local media won’t have access to players until the team’s first open session on May 21. Until then, 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard has some early reports, which he shared in Wednesday morning’s Blue 42 segment of Brock and Salk.

Ziggy Ansah: Seahawks are ‘perfect fit’ for me

“A couple things I think I’ve ascertained is, number one, these kids are pretty fast,” Huard said. “We talked about that in this draft class. In fact, John Schneider sat (in this studio) a few weeks before the draft, and when he defined a Seahawk, do you know what he said? He said, ‘fast, speed, physical… relentless.’ And speed is a big part of it.

“You look at not just the 40-times, but just watch them on the field. Ben Burr-Kirven plays even faster on the field; Gary Jennings plays even faster (on the field) and was the fastest kid at the Senior Bowl. D.K. Metcalf’s speed obviously speaks for itself. So I think that’s the first thing: this is not a group that’s totally a step slow — they’re still thinking and processing (all of this new information), but man do they have some twitch and some quickness.”

Not all Seahawks will be able to take part in OTAs — Huard noted that a few players are entering this phase of the offseason with injuries.

“The other thing that I think will stand out when we go out there, unfortunately, is just the number of guys who are banged up coming into the process,” Huard said. “(Defensive tackle) Jarran Reed had a core issue, and (defensive end) Ziggy Ansah has a shoulder injury… So when we have the open OTA on May 21, don’t count on seeing every one of these draft picks and every one of these young guys jumping aboard.”
