New Seahawks defensive end Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah joined Brock Huard and Mike Salk on 710 ESPN Seattle Wednesday morning to talk about his decision to come to Seattle.

New Seahawks DE Ziggy Ansah ‘makes everybody better’

“It’s a great organization,” Ansah, 29, said of the Seahawks. The former fifth-overall pick signed a one-year deal with Seattle on May 8.

“Seattle is known for the defense. I had to put a few things together, and I just thought it was a perfect fit for me.”

You can listen to the full interview in the audio clip embedded above (or on Brock and Salk’s podcast page here). Here are a few highlights:

Was it challenging to wait until a later phase of free agency to be signed? “I knew what it was and I knew I wouldn’t be picked early during free agency. I just had to exercise patience and I think it just happened at the right time.”

It seems like the only reason you went so late it because of your injured shoulder. How are you feeling right now and how’s the progress with that shoulder? “It’s been a great progress. I come out every day trying to work to make it better, out here in the organization working with the guys. So it’s been good.”

There are some conflicting reports about when you could hit the field. Do you have any idea of when that could be? “You know, I’m just going to take it a day at a time. I don’t have a timeline as of right now. I’m just waiting to see what the doctor is going to say, but until then, I’m putting in the work every day to get the body right.”
