The Seahawks signed veteran cornerback Jamar Taylor on Thursday, a move that was first reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Report: Seahawks expected to sign DE Ziggy Ansah

Taylor, 28, becomes the second defender to be signed by Seattle in the the phase of free agency that began late Tuesday in which teams aren’t subject to losing compensatory draft picks for free-agent signings. The Seahawks also reportedly came to an agreement with former Lions defensive end Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah on Wednesday night.

The addition of Taylor also adds depth to a nickel position formerly held by Justin Coleman, who signed with the Lions in free agency. Also competing at that spot in Seattle Akeem King, whom the Seahawks re-signed to a one-year deal in March.

The Seahawks announced the signing of Taylor along with the additions of fullback Nick Bellore and guard Marcus Martin on Thursday afternoon.

The 5-feet-11, 192-pound Taylor was drafted in the second round by the Miami Dolphins in 2013, though started just nine games over his first three seasons in the league. Taylor saw increased production in 2016, after he was traded to the Cleveland Browns.

The subsequent two seasons saw career-highs for Taylor. In 2016, he started 14 games and recorded three interceptions, 13 passes defended, and 57 tackles. In 2017, he started 15 games, and had 10 passes defended, a split-sack, and 62 tackles. The Browns ultimately traded Taylor to the Arizona Cardinals in 2018, where he spent half the season before being released in November.
