There is a different feeling with the 2019 Mariners.
Checking In: How the Mariners’ top players in the minor leagues are doing
Sure, some of that has to do with their strong start to the season that has faded in recent weeks as they now hover around a .500 record. But there are a lot of new faces, whether it’s in the everyday lineup, on the coaching staff or in the farm system, and with them have come new ideas.
MLB Network recently provided a look into the new culture the Mariners are building under general manager Jerry Dipoto and manager Scott Servais, following the Mariners on the day of an April 26 extra-innings win over the Rangers for a segment recently uploaded on YouTube.
In the piece, the crew joins Dee Gordon on a visit to Seattle’s own Ebbets Field Flannels store, has Daniel Vogelbach take them through his daily routine in the video room, and takes a close look at Justus Sheffield’s team debut on the mound. There are also comments from Servais and All-Star outfielder Mitch Haniger, on-field chatter between Gordon and Tim Beckham, and plenty from Dipoto, both from a sit-down interview as well as video of the former MLB reliever’s real-time reactions watching Sheffield pitch.
