The Seahawks made a second selection from the Utah Utes on Friday night, this time adding to their linebacker group by selecting Cody Barton in the third round with the 88th overall pick.

Barton joins his Utah teammate Marquise Blair in Seattle; Blair, a safety, was the first of two Seahawks picks in the second round at 47th overall.

In four seasons with the Utes, the 6-feet-2, 230-pound Barton finished with 235 tackles, nine sacks and one interception.

In Seattle, the rookie will join a linebacker corps that includes Pro Bowlers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, along with Mychal Kendricks, Shaquem Griffin, Barkevious Mingo, Austin Calitro, Jacob Martin, Justin Currie and Emmanuel Ellerbee.

“I’m looking forward to (playing with them),” Barton told reporters Friday. “Those are some great players and I want to learn as much as I can from those guys. That’s a chance for me to pick their brains and learn as much as I can from those kind of guys and become an even better player.”

Barton has experience playing both inside and outside linebacker – he played predominately on the outside as a freshman, though during his senior season he started all 14 games at middle linebacker.
