Mariners add pitchers Shawn Armstrong and Ruben Alaniz

The Mariners activated right-handed pitcher Shawn Armstrong and recalled right-handed pitcher Ruben Alaniz, the team announced Friday morning. Both will be available for Seattle’s three-game series opener against the Houston Astros Friday evening.
In a corresponding roster move, relief pitchers Matt Festa and Erik Swanson were optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
The 28-year-old Armstrong began the 2019 season on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. He has pitched two innings, striking out three, while rehabilitating with Triple-A Tacoma. Alaniz, 27, is has allowed one run over 3.1 innings pitched in two appearances for Tacoma.
