Mariners’ Felix Hernandez named starter for All-Star Game

Mariners ace Felix Hernandez has been named the American League’s starter for the All-Star Game, becoming just the second pitcher in club history to earn the honor.

The staring lineups for Tuesday’s All-Star Game were announced Monday. Seattle’s Robinson Cano will start at second base and hit third. Hernandez will square off against St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright, who was chosen over the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw to start for the National League.

Randy Johnson is the only other Mariners pitcher to start in the All-Star Game, doing so in 1995 and 1997.

710 ESPN Seattle and will carry the game, beginning at 5 p.m.
