The Seahawks made their first re-signing of the offseason Friday.

Which Seahawks free agent could be first to sign elsewhere?

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Seattle reached an agreement with 26-year-old cornerback Akeem King for a one-year, $1.4 million deal.

King, who was a pending restricted free agent, adds depth to a defensive backfield that will see seven players hit free agency next week. Free safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Justin Coleman are two of the biggest names on that list, and the re-signing of King would offer insurance if Seattle is unable to hold on to the latter.

King originally joined the Seahawks as as practice squad member in September 2017. He was promoted to Seattle’s active roster for the first time in September 2018 and appeared in all 16 games, finishing with 21 tackles and one quarterback hit.

“We’ve seen a lot of him, he’s been with us for a while,” head coach Pete Carroll said of King in January. “We really know technique-wise we can trust him and believe in him and he understands his schemes. That’s why we’ve been able to spot him around and do some things. He’s a bright player. He runs real fast, he’s a big kid and just kind of like we like them.”

This marks the second contract-related move the Seahawks have made this week. The team placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on defensive end Frank Clark on Monday.
