Investigation finds ‘no credible evidence’ of wrongdoing by Mariners after Lorena Martin allegations

An independent investigation prompted by Major League Baseball concluded Wednesday and found “no credible evidence” that the Seattle Mariners organization violated the MLB’s workplace code of conduct or anti-discrimination laws in their firing of Dr. Lorena Martin.

Shortly after being terminated from her job as director of high performance, Dr. Martin accused the team of sexist and racist behavior, first on social media, then in an interview, and finally in a wrongful termination lawsuit.

The Mariners, who have denied all charges, do not have further comment on the situation beyond this statement from Tim Hevly, Mariners Vice President of Communications:

“The Seattle Mariners take allegations of misconduct seriously and we investigate them fully. We respect and value all of our employees including their right to raise workplace concerns. We act swiftly to address all concerns as we did in this case. An outside investigation conducted by Epstein Becker Green, a national law firm specializing in employment law, on behalf of Major League Baseball arrived at the same conclusion as our own internal and independent investigation, finding no credible evidence of violations by Mariners employees. Due to continuing litigation, we’ll have no other comment.”
