The Mariners recalled outfielder James Jones on Monday to replace pitcher Erasmo Ramirez, who was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma postgame Sunday.
Ramirez started the Mariners’ 4-2 win Sunday, taking a no-decision after throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings, but was pulled from the game by manager Lloyd McClendon in the middle of an at-bat. In four stints with Seattle this season, he is 1-5 with a 4.06 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings pitched.
Jones returns to the Mariners after an eight-game turn with the Rainiers. In 79 games with the major-league club, the 25-year-old is hitting .258 with 38 runs, eight doubles, four triples, eight RBIs and a team-high 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He was sent to the minors after Seattle acquired center fielder Austin Jackson in a July 31 trade.
Jones will join a Mariners team that is 62-55 and entering a big three-game home series against the Blue Jays that begins Monday.
