The Seahawks received more bad injury news for their linebacker group Wednesday. Mychal Kendricks has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, linebacker Mychal Kendricks suffered a broken tibia in Seattle’s Monday night win over the Vikings and will miss the remainder of the season. However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said in a press conference Wednesday that Kendricks “needs to get work done on his knee.”

“He got caught in a situation, he just got hit on the outside of his knee and it got him,” Carroll added. “In unbelievable fashion, he finished the game and it was early enough he fought through it the whole time.”

Carroll hinted at Kendricks’ injury during an interview with 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock and Salk Tuesday morning.

“I really liked what Mychal Kendricks did,” Carroll said. “Mychal Kendricks got hurt in that game and he played through it. I don’t know how he is today, but he hurt his knee in the game, and I noticed him making it through. He did not want to come out, he fought it the whole way. He was not full-speed but he was going and he battled through it. He’s a really good ball player. I don’t know if he’s going to be well this week or not, it was unfortunate that it happened, but in the heat of the battle he was not going to be taken out.”

Kendricks, 28, was making his return from an eight-game suspension. The former second-round pick offered Seattle additional depth at weakside linebacker, a position that had seen a rotating cast ever since starter K.J. Wright underwent preseason knee surgery.

Kendricks will finish his season in Seattle with two sacks, 20 tackles and three quarterback hits through four starts.

With Wright’s status still up in the air, the Seahawks will likely turn to Austin Calitro. Rookie linebacker Shaquem Griffin provides additional depth, though has seen the majority of his gameday snaps on special teams.
