The Seahawks (5-5) had a bit of a break after their Thursday night win over the Packers, but they’ll get back to work this week as they prepare to face off against the Carolina Panthers (6-4) for their second-to-last road game of the season.

This week of practice will also mark the return of two players: Running back J.D. McKissic and linebacker Mychal Kendricks.

“Mychal can be around starting today,” head coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “He’s got two weeks that he can prepare and then in the third week he can play. We’ll welcome Mike back. He did a real nice job for us and I know for his own personal world, it’ll be great for him to be back and working with the guys.”

Kendricks, 28, started three games for Seattle earlier this season before being dealt an indefinite suspension by the league. The suspension, which was expected by both Kendricks and the Seahawks, was later set at eight games, meaning Kendricks can return to practice this week but is not eligible to play until Dec. 10. In the meantime, Seattle will likely stick with Austin Calitro at starting weakside linebacker (assuming K.J. Wright is still limited with a knee injury).

Also returning to practice — and eligible to play before Dec. 10 — is running back J.D. McKissic. After breaking his foot in the preseason, McKissic started the regular season on the injured reserve list, which necessitates an eight-week wait before returning to the active roster.

McKissic wasn’t quite healthy enough to return after Week 9 when he became eligible for re-activation, but Carroll said Friday the team is expecting him back this week.

“It’s a good issue,” Carroll said of Seattle divvying up carries with a deep running back group. “It’s a good concern. J.D. McKissic is going to come back to practice this week for the first time so he’ll have a chance to see what he can do to make it more confusing and challenging, but that’s a good thing.”
