The Seattle Thunderbirds announced Tuesday that they had acquired forward Brecon Wood from the Moose Jaw Warriors in a trade. In exchange for the 2000-born Wood, Seattle sends the Warriors a 2020 seventh-round pick in the WHL Bantam Draft.
Wood has one goal in nine games with Moose Jaw this season and over his career has recorded five goals and seven points in 91 career WHL games with the Warriors. The 6-foot-2 inch, 184 pounder will provide more experience and depth to the Seattle forward group.
“We are excited to add Brecon to our roster,” Seattle general manager Bil La Forge said via a press release. “He has good offensive upside and will provide depth up front.”
Before entering the WHL, Wood put up some big offensive numbers. In 2014-2015 while playing for MLAC Bantam AAA in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League he scored 17 goals on 33 points in 33 games. The addition of Wood also gives the Thunderbirds another 2000-born forward, a group where they were thin. He joins Dillon Hamaliuk and Tyler Carpendale as the only other forwards from that age group.
The Thunderbirds are in Spokane Tuesday for a game with the Chiefs but it is unknown if Wood will arrive in time to play in that contest. It would be assumed that he would see action this weekend as the Thunderbirds play a pair of games in Prince George.
