Seahawks to wear commemorative patches honoring Paul Allen

The Seattle Seahawks will don commemorative patches bearing the initials of late owner Paul Allen

Allen passed away earlier in October. After buying the team in 1996, he became a beloved figure both for the team and fans throughout the Pacific Northwest.

“Everything that he’s done in his life has just been first class,” said 710 ESPN’s Dave Wyman.

Players will wear the patch for the remainder of the 2018 season. It prominently features Allen’s initials, with a 12th-man flag and CenturyLink Field in the background.

Allen’s legacy as Seahawks owner is extensive — he saved the team from moving in 1996, helped lead them to an NFC Championship in 2005, moved them into CenturyLink Field in 2002 (then known simply as Seahawks Stadium, and then Qwest Field two years later), was responsible for hiring current head coach Pete Carroll in 2010, and presided over the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl victory in 2013.

The patches will be unveiled this Sunday, when the Seahawks head out east to take on the Detroit Lions.
