Instant Reaction: 710 ESPN Seattle on Seahawks’ win over Raiders

The Seahawks will return home from a trip to London owners of a dominant 27-3 win over the Raiders and a .500 record entering their bye week to the 2018 season.

As we do after each game during the football season, we have polled the voices of 710 ESPN Seattle for their instant reactions to Sunday’s Seahawks win. Here’s a sneak peak at what they’ll be saying on the air Monday.

Bob Stelton of Bob, Groz and Tom

The Seahawks did exactly what a good team should do against a struggling and depleted team – they dominated all facets of the game. Well, except for some costly penalties.

They kept their offensive momentum going against one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They controlled the clock with the running game. Russell Wilson was on point with three touchdown passes. And they converted 9 of 13 plays on third down.

The defensive line stepped up its game in this one. They pressured Oakland quarterback Derek Carr all afternoon, sacking him six times, all while making Marshawn Lynch a non-factor with just 45 yards rushing.

This is the kind of performance the Hawks needed going into the bye week. Now they’re 3-3 in a wide open NFC, and they can heal up while they get ready to face the Lions on the road after the week off.

Jim Moore of Danny, Dave and Moore

Hard to say whether the Seahawks looked that good or the Raiders looked that bad – probably a combination of both. Doesn’t matter, it was convincing enough to put the Seahawks back at .500 at 3-3 and in the thick of the NFL playoff race.

After a bye week and a game at Detroit, the Seahawks play six of their last nine games at home, making a 9-7 record and a wild-card berth realistic possibilities.

It was encouraging to see an energized pass rush against Derek Carr, and maybe it had something to do with injuries along the offensive line for Oakland, but still, Frank Clark and Jarran Reed looked like they would have been havoc-wreakers against any opponent Sunday.

Also nice to see Doug Baldwin have his first breakout game of the season along with three touchdown passes from Russell Wilson, putting him on a pace for 34 this year.

Tom Wassell of Bob, Groz and Tom

Feels like the transition from old to new is complete. Names like Carson, Moore, Lockett, Clark and McDougald define who the Seahawks are now. Each one one of those players had terrific games Sunday.

Competition is competition, but that Raiders team looked like they were still staggering off the plane. What does this game tell us? It fits the narrative that a “good loss” last week against the Rams could lead to a win this week – and a convincing one at that.

London looked fun. Props to the organization and the fans for making it a positive experience.

The results of this Seahawks season won’t be determined for months, but the results of the offseason are a definitive win.

They wanted to reset and recommit to a physical identity and they have succeeded. They wanted to get back to a more balanced offense that could attack on the ground and be efficient in the air and they have succeeded. They wanted to create a new secondary that could lead them into a new era and they succeeded. They wanted to take back the power from a group of entitled veterans who thought they were the show and they seem to be succeeding.

The turn may not be complete, but over the past four weeks we saw the foundation of it. And in London, we saw what the complete product might look like.

It was dominance. Pure, physical dominance.
