The Seahawks added a pair of safeties and promoted tight end Darrell Daniels from the practice squad Wednesday to add depth following season-ending injuries to safety Earl Thomas (tibia) and tight end Will Dissly (patellar tendon).

Seattle signed safeties Maurice Alexander and T.J. Green. Alexander, 27, spent the offseason and training camp with Seattle after originally being signed as a free agent in March.

The 6-feet-3, 215-pound Green, 23, was a second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. He appeared in 31 games at both free and strong safety and recorded 61 tackles.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that second-year free safety Tedric Thompson will step up in place of Thomas. However, the signings of Alexander and Green add depth to the position and insurance for a defensive backs group now short an All-Pro contributor.

“We’re excited about Tedric’s play and he’s been playing quite a bit in the dime group that we’ve been playing,” Carroll said Monday. “He’s been on the field a lot. It was nothing new for him to get out there. He’s been a big contributor on special teams as well. He’s just played solidly. Hasn’t had many attempts at making plays on the ball yet, but he’s been very solid. We expect him to play really well.”

Daniels, 23, is a former Washington Huskies tight end who was acquired by the Seahawks in a September trade with the Colts in exchange for wide receiver Marcus Johnson. He was waived Sept. 25 and later added to the practice squad.

Daniels could see more playing time than both Alexander and Green. With veteran tight end Ed Dickson still on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list until later October, Seattle had just one healthy tight end (Nick Vannett) prior to the move.

Both Dissly and Thomas have been placed on Injured Reserve.

Additional notes:

• T.J. Green will wear No. 40 for Seattle. Maurice Alexander will wear No. 35.
