Edwin Díaz is running out of room on his shelf for awards.

For the fourth time in five months this season – and the third month in a row – the Mariners closer has been named American League Reliever of the Month.

Mariners add Vogelbach, Beckham and Lawrence to active roster

Díaz is well on his way to the Reliever of the Year award, leading the majors with 52 saves, which is also a Mariners franchise record. He has a chance to challenge Francisco Rodríguez’s MLB record of 62 saves in a season, as well.

For August, Díaz recorded an MLB-leading 10 saves over 11 innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 21 and issuing no walks. Opponents batted just .195 (8 for 41) against him, and he posted a 0.73 WHIP.

This marks the fifth career AL Reliever of the Month award for Díaz, who also took the honors for July 2017.

Cruz nominated for Clemente award

In other awards-related news from the Mariners, designated hitter Nelson Cruz has been announced as the team’s nominee for the MLB’s Roberto Clemente Award for 2018.

Per a press release, the award is the annual recognition of a player from each MLB club who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

Beginning Wednesday, fans can vote for nominees at MLB.com/clemente21.
