Jon Ryan has played his last game as a member of the Seahawks.

The veteran punter announced the end of his 10-year tenure with the team Monday morning. The team confirmed the news later that afternoon, announcing the release of Ryan and kicker Jason Myers.

Jon Ryan and then-Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka were battling to be the less weird of the special-teams duo. Ryan may not have helped his case when he dropped this Yogi Berra-esque gem while talking to 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob, Groz and Tom, however: “I think I’m weird in a totally normal way. You know, he’s weird in a weird way.”

Perhaps the craziest thing to come out of the Seahawks’ miraculous comeback in their 28-22 overtime NFC Championship win was how their late surge started, and the two unlikely players who were at the center of it. During what appeared to be a field goal attempt, Ryan, acting as the holder, picked up the ball, rolled to his left, and found offensive lineman Garry Gilliam in the end zone for a touchdown.

Ryan hosted an hour-long segment on 97.3 KIRO Radio in October 2016. He and hosts Jason Rantz and Zak Burns talked Seahawks football, but were also able to get personal. In one moment, Ryan opened up about his dream post-football job: hosting a terrible reality-TV dating show.

“I think I’d be decent at that,” Ryan joked. “It’s like watching a train wreck. You know it’s going to crash, but you can’t take your eyes off of it.”

Ryan had to deal with a heckler in New England, but in this hilarious interview he told “Danny, Dave and Moore” that he was a little confused about why he was being heckled.

“This one guy just kept on yelling about how fat I was,” Ryan said Wednesday. “Like, ‘Ryan, I know what your favorite holiday is: Thanksgiving. Yum, yum, yum.’ I’m like, dude, what are you talking about?”

Calling Ryan fat is perplexing considering he is one of the NFL’s most physically fit punters. Ryan joked that he was “heartbroken” by the insults and that he’s “been drinking Slim Fast ever since.”
